A Review by this website

The Anvil Arms is a country pub situated close to the village pond, about 15 minutes from Filey. It is clean and inviting with traditional features, and comes complete with warm, welcoming staff and a lovely open fire. Good beers are available (Theakstons and Black Sheep amongst those on offer at the time). Food is served either in a restaurant area, or in the bar area set out for meals. For our Sunday lunch, we sat in the Bar.

Before our visit, I sought the independent opinion of a resident local to Wold Newton by Facebook (who I did not personally know) and was advised that it was good and that "I would not be disappointed". We certainly weren't. Booking for Sunday Lunch is recommended and they do two sittings.

The food was excellent with a good selection of vegetables cooked to satisfaction, Landlady Sheila and her staff ensured that we were well catered for as we enjoyed our meals in a relaxed atmosphere. Take your drink in front of the fire before being escorted to your table, and maybe like us, have another one before you go. The Bar staff occasionally came out front to discreetly check that things were in order to complete our experience. We also caught up on a couple of acquaintances who we had not seen in a while.

It is clear that at the Anvil Arms there is an passion in providing good, wholesome home cooked food. Also the toilets (very important)  are clean and well presented. By running the website, we take an interest in our local establishments and we very occasionally recommend them. On this occasion, based upon our random visit, the Anvil Arms at Wold Newton gets our 'Bay Recommended'.
