Jim Haxby, Fisherman

The Filey Bay Initiative welcomes Jim Haxby into its activities.  Jim is an experienced Filey fisherman whose family can be traced back many generations and is an expert on the Filey coble, the fishing methods employed by the fleet and the people who were employed in the fishing industry.  Jim, pictured here with acclaimed American underwater Archaeologist Donald G Shomette, is keen to impart his knowledge and has featured in the regional media regarding his family's work and fishing matters.  Jim is keen to participate in the Filey Town Council's cultural links with Calvert County and his comprehensive fishing knowledge is an invaluable link back to the days when the traditional long lining for cod fish was king on the Yorkshire Coast.

Jim is the Vice Chairman of the Filey Coble Preservation Society and has been a member of the Filey Fishermen's Choir, Harmony Group and the Filey Men for many years.
